Dargah Nizamuddin Aulia, Pragati Maidan, Safdarjung Tomb and Qutab Minar - Delhi
Pragati Maidan:
Pragati Maidan is a huge exhibition complex and the site for many fairs, located near Purana Quila. For the children, 'Appu Ghar' is a great attraction. One can find many auditoriums, cinema halls under a single umbrella. Now it's counted as a very important tourist centre of modern Delhi.
Safdarjung
Tomb: This famous tomb was built by Shuja-ud-daula (Subedar of Oudh during 1750s) as a tribute to his father Safdarjung. It was inspired by Humayun’s Tomb. This beautiful structure inside an extensive garden is being considered as the last spark of Mughal architecture in Delhi. The tomb is made up of marble and red stone.
Qutab Minar: It is the tallest brick minaret in the world with a height of 234 feet. Inside the tower, there is a circular staircase with 379 steps heads towards the top. It is made up of red sandstone and marble. Qutab-ud-din-Aibak, the founder of the Delhi Sultanate started building the Qutab Minar in 1199. After his death his son-in-law Iltutmish completed the structure in 1200AD.
Firoz Shah Tughlak did some restoration work after lightning struck the top storey and destroying it completely. He also added two new floors during that time. Finally, It's now a five storied Minar with one projecting balconies on each floor. Qutab Minar is surrounded by many other historic memorials like Iron Pillar, Quwwat-ul-Islam Mosque, Alai Darwaja, the Tomb of Iltutmish, Alai Minar, Ala-ud-din's Madrasa and Tomb, Tomb of Imam Zamin, Major Smith's Cupola and Sanderson's SundiaIt. These are all together known as 'Qutb Complex'.
