Shimla - Himachal Pradesh
This wonderful place was first found in 1819 by the British. It used to be their summer capital of India. Therefore all the buildings and the structures of Shimla represents the European style. After Independence, Shimla was the capital of Punjab till1966 and after the formation of the new State of Haryana and Himachal Pradesh; Shimla became the capital of Himachal Pradesh. Shimla is pleasantly cool in summer and very cold during winter.
The city is well connected with nearby important places. Chandigarh is the near most Airports. The train journey to Shimla from Delhi is a pleasant one as the train passes through so many tunnels, rocky and craggy landscapes and charming thick forests. Shimla is also connected with major towns and cities through roads. There are normal buses to Shimla from Delhi, Chandigarh, Kalka, Kulu, Manali, Jammu, Nahan and other cities. A number of air-conditioned luxury coaches with video facility are available, operated by Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation Ltd.
