Four Most Popular Indian Festivals
Saraswati
Puja: Saraswati Puja is the greatest festival of students. In this festival, we
worship the goddess of learning. Students enjoy the festival very much. It is
their own festival. On this occasion pandals are nicely decorated with flowers.
Students offer ‘Puspanjali’ the goddess in the morning. They pray to the goddess
for knowledge. In some places, cultural programmes are held. Students participated
them. They sing, dance, recite and stage dramas. Thus they enjoy the festival. The
deity is immersed the next day.
The Holy
Festival: Holy is a great festival in India. It is celebrated all the country. It
is held in the spring generally in March. In this time winter comes to an end. Nature
is covered with new green leaves. Colorful flowers bloom on the branches. People
catch this festive mood of nature. In this festival deities like Shri Krishna
and Sri Radha are worshipped. It is the festival of colors. People, old or young,
rich or poor participated in this color festival. They smear or sprinkle colors
on each other out of joy. Holy promotes unity and friendship among the people
of our country.
Diwali: Diwali
is the festival of lights. It is also called Deepavali. It is held in autumn.
During this festival, people decorate their houses with lights. Houses look
very nice. The evening on this day looks like a morning. Diwali festival has
its meaning. The light means good. It defeats darkness. Darkness means bad. It
is a very popular festival of our country. In Bengal Kali Puja is observed on
this day. People also worship goddess of wealth, Lakshmi.
Durga Puja: Durga Puja is a famous Hindu festival.
It is held in autumn. Goddess Durga and her four children Kartikeya, Ganesha,
Lakshmi and Saraswati are now worshipped. Goddess Durga is the symbol of power.
She has ten weapons in her ten hands, she in the mood and posture of killing
the demon. Bengali enjoy the four days of the festival very much. They wear new
clothes and ear nice food. The Puja pandals are nicely decorated with flowers
and lights. It is a great festival for children also. We all feel sad when the
festival ends.
